"The heart of a Cheshire man can be compared to his ale: pure and home-brewed; whilst the persons and dispositions of the women can be compared to their cheese: universally admired." W. Cowdroy, 1789.
Cask Marque Accredited...
We're very proud to have been awarded the prestigious Cask Marque for our real ales and the plaque is now displayed proudly on the wall.
The Cask Marque Trust is an independent organisation who send out assessor to carry out unnanounced checks on all cask ales for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste.
The inspections are very rigorous and only if all beers reach the required standard on two occasions does the pub receive the award.
As you can imagine, being accredited only results from lots of hard work over a long period time. So, thanks to everyone who's contibuted and continues to contribute to keep our beers at this very high standard. Cheers!
You can visit the Cask Marque web site at www.cask-marque.co.uk just to see how hard they make their accreditation standards!
Real ales are right at the heart of what a good country pub is all about and we pride ourselves in the quality and variety of real ales on offer at The Swan. Our continued listing in the Good Beer Guide over many years demonstrates our commitment to keeping our ales at the top of their game.
Hand-crafted beers need dedication and expertise to nurture them to maturity and condition which means lots of highly skilled work in the cellar. But it's worth every moment when your pint glints at you from your glass.
At any point in time we’ll have up to ten real ales available. The selection changes according to the season and what we think is particularly good right now. The list below reflects the sort of choice you might expect to find.
As you might expect, we always have our own Swan with Two Nicks bitter made by the Coach House Brewing Company. Timothy Taylor Landlord is also a constant feature and you'll always find at least a couple of beers from the local Dunham Massey Brewing Company. Whatever else we have in the cellar next time you visit, you can be sure it'll be in the best of condition.
